The sky was getting dark, so it wasn’t a good time to go after criminals.
Kendall returned to the Hansen family villa, ready to end her relationship with the Hansen family, a relationship of mere biological kinship.
The Hansen villa was brightly lit.
The four members of the Hansen family who had been indiscriminately kicked into the pool by Kendall earlier had clearly washed up and returned to their usual elegant and composed selves.
Mia sat on the sofa, having changed into a green sheath dress. Her washed and blow-dried hair was fluffy and smelled fragrant. She glanced at the darkening sky outside the window, a hint of anxiety on her delicate, fair face. “Dad, Mom, what should we do? My sister went out and hasn’t come back yet. I hope nothing happened to her?”
Jake, sitting on the sofa, had a flash of disgust in his eyes. “Don’t even mention her to me!”
The thought of being publicly kicked into the pool by Kendall that afternoon made him furious. As the head of the family, he had never been so humiliated! He shouldn’t have brought Kendall back in the first place. It would have been better to just leave her out there to fend for herself than to bring her back to cause so much chaos!
Jake radiated a low pressure, and Diana sitting next to him was just as angry. She felt she had been more than good to Kendall, bringing her from that dilapidated old house to a big villa and even giving her a monthly allowance. She thought she was a good mother, and this was how Kendall repaid her?
When the Hansen family twins, Luca and Luke, returned from university, they heard that Kendall had suddenly gone crazy and kicked everyone into the pool. They were equally indignant.
Luca said, “We shouldn’t have brought her back. She’s an adult, and her bad habits from living on her own can’t be changed. Bringing her back just makes everyone unhappy and embarrasses all of us.”
Luke immediately chimed in, “It’s one thing that she was emotionally unbalanced and secretly jealous of how we treated Mia, but now she has started hitting people! She doesn’t see us as her family at all.”
The two looked at each other and said in perfect sync, “Dad, why don’t we give her some money and have her move out?”
They really couldn’t stand seeing that annoying woman, Kendall, anymore. “Look how happy our family was the entire month she was in the hospital, unconscious. The moment she woke up, she made everyone in the family miserable.”
Kendall had just returned to the villa when she heard the twin’s words. Her clear eyes were completely calm. The twins loved playing video games and hated doing their homework. She remembered that when she first came back to the Hansen family, it was during the summer holidays. She had specially bought the twins a highly sought-after, out-of-print game console and set a goal for them. If they finished their homework, she would give them the console. That was the time the twins had the best attitude toward Kendall because she would tutor them with their homework and was also incredibly good at video games!
Then, Mia pretended to be sad and tearfully complained to the twins about why they only wanted to play with Kendall and not her, asking if they didn’t acknowledge her as their sister anymore. A few days later, Kendall found the game console she had given them in the trash. At the same time, their attitude toward her became increasingly hostile, as if they were afraid of Mia getting the wrong idea.
Now, their words made Kendall sneer silently. If Mia had been in a coma for a month in the hospital, would they have been so happy? The Hansen family’s lack of concern and care during her month in the hospital was undeniably the epitome of cold indifference.
Kendall stood outside the door, holding a half-empty bottle of water. Seeing that no one had noticed her, she wasn’t in a hurry to go inside. She wanted to see how they usually talked about her behind her back.
The twins word clearly swayed Diana, but she still hesitated. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. Ever since we brought her back, she’s lived in the villa. Even during college, she would commute across half the city to come back every day instead of staying on campus. And after graduation, she stayed at home all the time… working. If we suddenly kick her out, I’m afraid she’ll resent us.”
Liam, who had been sitting with his arms crossed on the sofa, finally couldn’t help but sneer. “Is that really a job? ‘Live streaming’ is a nice way to put it, but she’s just trying to ride on Mia’s coattails. Out of her 100,000 followers, 99,000 are antis. Every time she streams, she gets nothing but insults. She’s completely embarrassing our family! How could someone like her make any money? She’s just using the excuse of being a freelancer to freeload off the villa. Maybe deep down, she’s hoping you and Dad die soon so she can get a piece of the Hansen family’s fortune and become a parasite on society!”
Liam was still resentful about Kendall kicking him into the pool that afternoon. He spoke without reservation, interpreting her actions in the most malicious way possible. Both Jake and Diana’s expression turned dark.
Kendall shook the water bottle in her hand. The reason she didn’t stay on campus and braved the weather to come back to the villa every day was because she wanted to build a relationship with them and grow closer. She didn’t expect that this was what everyone thought of her.
“That’s going too far, Liam!” Mia said, biting her lip and standing up. “My sister, Kendall, isn’t like that. She grew up in the mountains and never lived in such a nice villa, so it’s normal for her to be attached to it. It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t taken her place, she would have grown up with a life of luxury and would have gotten used to everything in this villa, and she wouldn’t have all these bad thoughts.”
On the surface, she was refuting Liam, but in reality, her words only affirmed what he said, which just added fuel to the fire. Looking at her pathetic manipulative act, Kendall felt her hands itching to do something.
When you’ve reached your limit, there is no need to hold back. Kendall tightened her grip slightly, and the water bottle in her hand flew out, hitting Mia precisely on the head.
“Ouch!”
“Who? Who hit me?!”
“Holy crap!”
Three cries of pain rang out at the same time. The first voice was Mia’s, the second and third came from the twins. Because after hitting Mia, the water bottle bounced off and hit both twins who were sitting together.
Kendall clapped her hands and walked in from the doorway. “My apologies, my hand slipped, and it flew toward the people it was supposed to hit.”
Seeing her, the Hansen family was startled. Liam couldn’t help but point at Kendall and yell, “Why are you back? When did you get here?”
“I came back because I wanted to. What? Do I need to inform you first?” Kendall lifted her eyelids and gave him a cold look.
Liam was speechless. The twins beside him saw Kendall appear, and a flash of guilt involuntarily crossed their eyes as they remembered what they had just said. But then, when they saw the water bottle on the floor, they grew defiant again.
Luca’s eyes widened. “Are you sick? Why are you hitting people as soon as you get home?”
“Am I hitting people? Even animals know how to huddle together for warmth, but all you can think about is how to kick me out,” Kendall said, stepping forward. She bent down to pick up the water bottle on the floor and coldly retorted, “Who was it who said they were going to kick me out just now?”
Both Luca and Luke were furious. They were the ones who had suggested kicking Kendall out of the Hansen family. Did she mean they were worse than animals?
Luca took a step forward, clenching his fists. “Kendall Lane, don’t think I won’t hit you just because you just got out of the hospital.”
Kendall raised her eyelids. “Oh, so you’re planning on a one-on-one fight?”
